MEDICAL ASSOCIATION APPLAUDS GOV. SANI BELLO'S HEALTH REFORM AGENDA

The Niger State Branch of Nigerian Medical Association has commended and applauded the holistic health reform agenda of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello tagged THE NIGER HEALTH 1.0. The Association also lauded the progressive mission and drive of the Governor by appointing a vibrant, dynamic and responsive medical-seer in person of Dr. Mustapha Jibril.

Speaking during a Courtesy Call Visit to Dr. Mustapha Jibril, the Chairman of Niger State Chapter of Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Mustapha Makanta Yahaya described Governor Abubakar Sani Bello as a worthy son with an aggressive vision to transform not just the Health Sector but the entire State.

Dr. Makanta noted that, since assumption of Dr. Mustapha Jibril as Mr. Governor's representative at the Ministry of Health, his exemplary leadership style has "immensely boosted the confidence in the State Health system".

The officers to pilot the affairs of the Professional body at the State Level are ; Dr. Mustapha Makanta Yahaya, Chairman, Dr. Jibril Abdullahi Daniyan as Vice Chairman and Dr. Inuwa Junaidu as Secretary of the Association. Others are ; Dr. Ogwumike Sunday, Assistant Secretary,  Dr. Abdulganiyu Kudirat as Treasurer, Dr. Sa'adu Saleh Galma as Financial Secretary and Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi Ghani as the Public Relation Officer.

The formidable professional association with a Vision "committed to foster effective and efficient healthcare delivery, high ethical standards and the interest of her members" operates to actualize the Aims and Objectives including ; 1. To ensure that medical and dental practitioners are licensed to and uphold the physicians' oath. 2. Promote the advancement of health and allied sciences. 3. To assist the Government and Citizens in provision of smooth, efficient and effective healthcare delivery in the State. 4. To promote the welfare and interaction of all members and 5. To cooperate with all organizations with similar aims and objectives as well consider and express views on all proposed health related legislations in the State.

Short-listing their many challenges including ; Poor remuneration of members in government employment within the State, Lack of funds to meet the magnitude of programs and activities of the Association, Lack of involvement/partnership with the body on healthcare issues and programs as well Lack of capital to facilitate the speedy completion of the State Secretariat Building and most importantly, the salary issue of Doctors and other Health workers in the State.

The Professional Body prayed that all major stakeholders in the healthcare industry to work and partner with NMA to ensure smooth, efficient and effective healthcare delivery in Niger State and towards the realization of the Association's aims of taking healthcare services through free medical and surgical outreaches to Nigerlites at the grassroots level. They also prayed that the body actualized the project "Doctors Quarters" in the State to mention but a few.

Responding, Dr. Mustapha Jibril thanked the Association while assuring them of Governor Sani Bello's aspirations not just to such "an important body but the entire well-being of Nigerlites".

He spoke further by reassuring them that "Mr. Governor is very worried about the issue of salary and so, he is looking into it with all humility" while urging members of the association to consider themselves as "partners in progress" towards the Niger State Restoration Mission of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
