It will be another weekend of exciting football across Europe as teams get back into contention for their 2016/17 campaign in their respective leagues.

The English Premier League will be booming with excitement as any slip from the league leaders would change the course of the standings.

In the Spanish La Liga, the gap between the top six teams is just three points as the regular two horse race has been thrown into more competition this term.

The two biggest clubs in the Italian Serie A have a date this weekend as they renew their rivalry when the defending Champions travel to the San Siro.

Here are the top four matches for the weekend

1. Manchester City vs Southampton (Sunday, 1:30pm)

Pep Guardiola's side have been wobbly since Celtic ended their 10 match winning run in all competitions which followed with the defeat to Tottenham, the draw to Everton and the recent 0 – 4 thumping in the hands of Barcelona have brought the billionaire club back to earth.

The crisis in the team have taken another turn following criticisms about axing star man Sergio Aguero from the squad in the Champions League and Claudio Bravo's unstable form in goal. A slip at the Etihad to the Saints will compound the woes of the Spanish coach.

2. Chelsea vs Manchester United (Sunday, 4pm)

Two teams with pedigree come neck to neck when the Blues square up against the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge and it will be Antonio Conte's first meeting with Jose Mourinho.

The intriguing part of this encounter is the return of the Special One to where he became popular as the fans are awaiting the coach that won their hearts with trophies.

3. Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao (Sunday, 7:45pm)

Despite scoring 10 goals in their last two matches Cristiano Ronaldo just managed to score one out of them and this will be a something coach Zinedine Zidane will worry about.

Los Blancos might be highly favoured to win the match but every Real Madrid fan can not wait for Ronaldo to get back into his scoring form for Los Merengues.

4. AC Milan Vs Juventus (Saturday, 7:45pm)

The Old Lady have been the dominating force in the Italian Serie A but whenever there is a meeting between these sides, it tends to be blockbuster in Italian football.

The Rossoneri have been off colour in the past few years but have started their campaign on a promising note and a win at the San Siro will put them three points behind their opponents.
