IMO SPEAKER EMERGES AS CPA PRESIDENT

The Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, successfully elected President, Rt Hon(Dr) Acho Ihim has emerged as the President, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, CPA, Africa Region.

The appointment took place today at Intercontinental Hotel, Balaclava, Mauritius and was witnessed by over two thousand delegates drawn from the region.

Pronouncing Ihim's presidency amidst pomp and pageantry, Demetrius Mgalam, Assistant Regional  Secretary of the union, described him as a great asset and seasoned administrator who will turn CPA around for the better.

The out-goin president, Rt Hon Santi Bai Hanoomanjee expressed confidence in his ability to take their union to the desired height and assured of their full support and cooperation.

In his acceptance speech, Speaker Ihim on behalf of the people and government of Imo State and the Nigerian nation thanked members of the association for the opportunity given to Nigeria to steer CPA aright.

He assured on improved state of members and impactful bilateral relationship among member nations in the region. Rt Hon Ihim while avowing to think out of the box and do the uncommon to build a sustainable and virile African region, stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to realize his lofty ideals.

The event which was the 47th conference of CPA was declared open by the Prime Minister of Mauritius, His Excellency Anerood Jaunauth who used the annual convocation to advocate for peace and understanding in the region.
