The recent expansion of Security architecture through the creation of 6th Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt Rivers State, a Brigade Command in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and other Commands to beef up security in the Niger Delta Region by the Federal Government has received commendation from Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel.
Governor Emmanuel made the commendation when the General Officer Commanding 6th Division, Nigerian Army , Major General K. I. Abdulkarim, led other Service Chiefs in Army formations within the Niger Delta Region on a courtesy call on him at the Government House, Uyo.
He said " President Mohammadu Buhari has acted responsively to the security challenges confronting the Niger Delta Region by creating additional Commands in the Region" and sued for attention to the welfare of beneficiaries of the Federal Government Amnesty programme whose stipends, he said have not been paid over a period of time.
The Governor who congratulated Major Abdulkarim on his assumption of duty as Commander of the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army in the Niger Delta Region, said that the creation of two Brigade in Akwa Ibom State will further strengthen the security infrastructure of the state.
Mr Emmanuel therefore pledged his administration's readiness to provide the necessary logistics as well as allocate the Army a land to enable the Authorities to build a befitting Barrack.
Earlier in his remarks, Major k. I. Abdulkarim said that the 6th Division was carved out of the eighty - two Division to beef up security and check incursion in the Niger Delta Region explaining that with the arrangement Uyo, Yenagoa, and Asaba maintain Brigade Commands.
He expressed appreciation to Akwa Ibom State Government for approval granted for the citing of a Barrack in Uyo as well as establishment of a security Village in the state.
Major Abdulkarim said that the Command would also contribute to the development of the state by establishing educational institutions as well as embark on other development programmes to add to the ambience of the state.
Highpoint of the visit was a presentation of Souvenir by Governor Emmanuel to Major General K. I. Abdulkarim who was accompanied by the Officer Commanding 2 Brigade, Brigadier General Amusu Hassan, GOC 6th Amphibious Brigade, Ibagwa and other Service Chiefs within the Region.
