Governor Masari Set to improve Water supply and End Shortage in Katsina State

Katsina State Governor  Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari has tour Ajiwa Water Treatment Plant and Dam on Sunday 25th September 2015 to assess the work progress.

Water supply was at its lowest at the time Governor Masari took over the State.  All water treatment plants in the state were operating below 50% of their installed capacity.

The following quick interventions were made by the Masari administration reduce the hardship caused by inadequate water supply in the state

The Contract for complete rehabilitation of Ajiwa Water treatment plant and dam has been awarded and is ongoing, when completed the production capacity of the plant will be restored to its original capacity of 50,000m3 per day.

Out of the 41 Semi-Urban water supply schemes in the state not up to 20%  were met functioning, while lack of genuine policy has rendered most rural water supply schemes useless

Katsina, Dutsinma , Jibia, Funtua and Malumfashi are served by conventional surface water treatment  and Daura town has a bore-hole based water supply system

a. The Daura water system was out of operation for 4 years, Contract was awarded  and has been completed in November 2015.  Daura town now enjoys good and regular water supply of at least 2,500,000 cubic meters daily

b. Malumfashi water supply scheme, which has been out of operation for 7 years was repaired and Malumfashi town has started enjoying water supply Since March 2016

c. Sabuwar Unguwa, Rahamawa Abbatoir and Dutsin Safe housing Estate water supply support systems  were also rehabilitated within the first 100 days in office of Governor

a. 64 solar borehole water supply schemes have been rehabilitated and over 102 hand-pumps were in addition to new ones constructed in the Rural Water supply scheme to meet the water supply demands in the state.

b. Upgrade of the Malumfashi water works scheme to double the production of the treatment plant with a completion date of 2017

c. Completion of the Zobe regional water supply to Katsina metropolis and enrooted towns and villages with a completion date of 2017

d. Upgrade of at least 20 Semi Urban water schemes to Urban schemes and rehabilitation of all existing Semi Urban water schemes

e. Construction of Atleast 10 new Semi Urban water schemes all over the state among others
