NIGERIA AND NIGER CDS MEET Over BOKO HARAM

The Chief of Defence Staff Nigeria, General Gabriel Olonisakin and his Nigerien counterpart, General Seyni Garba have met to fashion out appropriate modality to deepen the existing bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Niger. The meeting, which was held at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja had other top military officers from both countries in attendance.

Speaking during the meeting, General Seyni Garba of Niger Republic said that the menace of Boko Haram insurgence is not affecting only the Lake Chad Basin Commission member countries but the whole of West African Sub Region. To contain the onslaught of the insurgence, he said, requires concerted efforts of regional members.

General Olonisakin in his remark thanked General Seyni Garba for the visit, reiterating that the two Armed Forces have collaborated for a long time, especially in the area of training, joint operations and the formation of joint task force at the Lake Chad Basin. He said he had a strong conviction that the outcome of the meeting would herald more solution to tackling the menace of Boko Haram terrorists.

At the end of the bilateral meeting, a communiqué was signed by both countries. Other officers from Nigerian side that accompanied General Olonisakin to the meeting included the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, Representative of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Peter Agba and the Chief of Defence Intelligence Air Vice Marshal Monday Morgan.
