Today's Bible Teaching: When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

James 4 Vs 1-6

Submit Yourselves to God

1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

You adulterous people,[a] don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us[b]But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:

"God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble."[c]

INTERPOL, EFCC arrest internet scam Kingpin, Mike after stealing $60m

Ring leader of global network behind thousands of online scams arrested in Nigeria

RIVER STATE, Nigeria – The head of an international criminal network behind thousands of online frauds has been arrested in a joint operation by INTERPOL and the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).The 40-year-old Nigerian national, known as 'Mike', is believed to be behind scams totalling more than USD 60 million involving hundreds of victims worldwide. In one case a target was conned into paying out USD 15.4 million.
The network compromised email accounts of small to medium businesses around the world including in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Romania, South Africa, Thailand and the US, with the financial victims mainly other companies dealing with these compromised accounts.

Heading a network of at least 40 individuals across Nigeria, Malaysia and South Africa which both provided malware and carried out the frauds, the alleged mastermind also had money laundering contacts in China, Europe and the US who provided bank account details for the illicit cash flow.
Following his arrest in Port Harcourt in southern Nigeria, a forensic examination of devices seized by the EFCC showed he had been involved in a range of criminal activities including business e-mail compromise (BEC) and romance scams.

The main two types of scam run by the 40-year-old targeted businesses were payment diversion fraud – where a supplier's email would be compromised and fake messages would then be sent to the buyer with instructions for payment to a bank account under the criminal's control – and 'CEO fraud'.

In CEO fraud, the email account of a high-level executive is compromised and a request for a wire transfer is sent to another employee who has been identified as responsible for handling these requests. The money is then paid into a designated bank account held by the criminal.
'Mike' first came onto the law enforcement radar through a report provided to INTERPOL by Trend Micro, one of its strategic partners at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore. This, combined with actionable analysis and intelligence from Fortinet Fortiguard Labs in 2015, enabled specialists at the INTERPOL Digital Crime Centre, including experts from Cyber Defense Institute based at the IGCI, and the EFCC to locate the suspect in Nigeria, resulting in his arrest in June.
Abdul Chukkol, Head of the EFCC's Cybercrime Section said the transnational nature of business e-mail compromise makes it complex to crack, but the arrest sent a clear signal that Nigeria could not be considered a safe haven for criminals.
"For a long time we have said in order to be effective, the fight against cybercrime must rely on public-private partnerships and international cooperation," said Mr Chukkol.
"The success of this operation is the result of close cooperation between INTERPOL and the EFCC, whose understanding of the Nigerian environment made it possible to disrupt the criminal organization's network traversing many countries, targeting individuals and companies," added Mr Chukkol.
Noboru Nakatani, Executive Director of the IGCI warned that BEC poses a significant and growing threat, with tens of thousands of companies victimized in recent years.
"The public, and especially businesses, need to be alert to this type of cyber-enabled fraud," said Mr Nakatani.
"Basic security protocols such as two-factor authentication and verification by other means before making a money transfer are essential to reduce the risk of falling victim to these scams.
"It is exactly through this type of public and private sector cooperation that INTERPOL will continue to help member countries in bringing cybercriminals to justice no matter where they are," concluded Mr Nakatani.
The 40-year-old, along with a 38-year-old also arrested by Nigerian authorities, faces charges including hacking, conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences. Both are currently on administrative bail as the investigation continues.

AGAIN, LONDON TELEGRAPH IS STRENGTHENING BOKO HARAM TERRORISM – PRESIDENCY

AGAIN, LONDON TELEGRAPH IS STRENGTHENING BOKO HARAM TERRORISM – PRESIDENCY
The London Telegraph's article "Children Face Death by Starvation in Northern Nigeria" (30th July, 2016) repeats a claim from an earlier piece "Nigeria Using UK Aid to Persecute President's Political Foes" (12th April, 2016) - that Nigeria is diverting UK aid monies away from defeating the Islamist terror group Boko Haram towards those the newspaper identifies as political opponents of the Administration. This is as incorrect as it is unhelpful.
These claims in both articles are attributed to an unnamed "source" in the United States, and "Western officials". Yet when the first article was published it drew the condemnation of the US Embassy in Abuja as having drawn conclusions directly opposite to the position of the US government.
To state the facts: the UK government does not give development aid to the Nigerian administration for use in military operations against Boko Haram. Where British military support – such as intelligence - is provided, it is precisely and only, given for operations directly against Boko Haram. Similarly, the Nigerian Government is in no position to divert aid monies used for emergency relief for refugees or IDP camps for any other purpose, as these are dispensed directly by DFID, USAID, the United Nations, the International Red Cross, Doctors without Borders and many other organizations - with which we enjoy excellent relations.
The humanitarian situation in these camps is real. The Administration remains deeply concerned about the medical, health and nutrition challenges and we are doing everything with the limited resources we have at our disposal to improve the situation. However, the blame for the plight of refugees lies with Boko Haram. They are its cause, not the Nigerian Government.

In the light of ongoing efforts, we regret the recent attack on the UN humanitarian convoy in the Northeastern region and are encouraged by the world body's determination to continue rendering assistance to the displaced victims. That the attack was repelled by Nigerian troops escorting the convoy shows precisely how the Government and humanitarian agencies are working together.
As for claims that the Administration is targeting Christians and the opposition, these are without foundation.
Since assuming office, President Buhari has treated all Nigerians without bias for ethnicity or religion - as the composition of his cabinet and the policies and programmes of his Administration demonstrate.
To suggest his government as deepening Muslim-Christian division is not only untrue, but plays into the hands of Boko Haram who wish to divide Nigerians along religious lines. Fighting this group is key priority of President Buhari's Administration. Indeed the international community has widely acknowledged his determination to defeat terrorism in Nigeria and the entire Lake Chad Basin.
There is nothing to gain by attempting to mould public opinion against these facts. Therefore we invite The Telegraph to visit Nigeria: to witness first hand not only the challenges we face, but the Administration's determination to confront them.

See Photos Of 24,273 Cartons Of Smuggled Poultry Products Worth Over N256m Impounded By Customs In Edo State

FOU Zone 'C' Customs Impounds 24,273 Cartons of Smuggled Poultry Products worth over N256 Million
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone 'C', Owerri has continued to effectively checkmate the excesses of smugglers of contraband goods in the country following the latest seizure of a total of 24,273 cartons of imported frozen poultry products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N 256,264,200.
In a press statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the Unit, Onuigbo Ifeoma, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Haruna Mamudu said that the items which were cleverly and deceitfully concealed in a Scania truck with an inscription 'DHL' were seized on the Benin axis in Edo State.

Compt. Haruna, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the Customs Warehouse in Benin said that the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the items impounded stood at N256,264,200 just as three suspects were arrested by the eagle-eyed Customs men on duty in connection with the illegal business.
The Customs Comptroller, who spoke of the consequences usually associated with the consumption of foreign frozen poultry products preserved with chemicals meant for the preservation of dead bodies, regretted that a number of untimely deaths had occurred as a result of this.
He said that the NCS had continued to ensure maximum media publicity in respect of the dangers posed to human health by imported frozen poultry products and warned those still engrossed in the illicit business to desist forthwith in their own interest or face the full weight of the law.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller in charge of Enforcement, Mr. Oladesu Shola regretted that while the Nigeria Customs had remained resolute, consistent and diligent in the war against smuggling, those involved in the unpatriotic act had continued to devise and perfect many plans to achieve their illegal ambitions.
He reiterated that the NCS is now well fortified, better equipped, trained and transformed to deal decisively with smugglers wherever they operate with a superlative intelligence gathering system and unit.
He assured that those already in the Customs' net would undergo a thorough investigation and if found culpable would be made to face the music accordingly.
"We are now talking of a change but regrettably these smugglers are not ready to embrace the change meant for the betterment of our country. We have no other country called ours and therefore, all hands must be to the pump to salvage it," he said.
