Pandemonium In Nasarawa State As Corps Members Protest Against Soldiers

Loading...

There was pandemonium Tuesday morning at Magaji Dan Yamusa camp in Nasarawa state as 2015 Batch B (stream 2) corp members who are currently in camp defiled their undertaking not to protest in camp and protested against what they termed the rude acts of soldiers towards them.

The corp members alleged that their camp commandant A.O Awodele has been treating them like animals and were chanting that they don't want to serve again.

They further alleged that fire alarm has been sounded twice by 12:30 am thereby forcing them to stay under the harsh cold weather till 4:00 am.

Efforts by the deployed soldiers to avert the protest proved abortive as the corp members insisted that the camp commandant must be sacked from the camp.

Due to to the increasing level of the protest and the in ability of soldiers to end it, the state NYSC coordinator Mrs C.I Ubah visited the camp and pleaded with the corp members to maintain peace and promised to meet with the soldiers and the camp commandant over the matter which she later did.

The intervention of the state coordinator restored peace back in the camp although the corp members still insisted that the camp commandant must be sacked.

Some of the corp members I contacted who didn't want to disclose their names alleged that the camp commandant was so rude and he always purnish them like animals and threatenes any corp member that refuses to obey his punishments with decamping.

They also alleged that about 5 corp members have been decamped since the commencement of the stream 2 camping.

According to one of the corp members, "the commandant is a Jezebel and he treats us as if we are not human beings, we are meant to serve our nation here and not to be treated as animals."
