As a result of recent attacks in some villages in Borno state by Boko Haram insurgents,Governor Kashim Shettima on Tuesday met with members of youth volunteers involved in the battle against insurgency popularly known as 'Civilian JTF'.Governor Shettima thanked the civilians for their contributions in the fight against Boko Haram,donated N20million to them and also unveiled welfare packages for them.
Speaking at the meeting,Governor Shettima eulogized them for sacrificing their lives in restoring peace in the state.According to him,no amount of welfare package/financial remuneration is tantamount to the sacrifices being made by the group in restoring peace in Borno state considering the fact that many of them have lost their lives in the battle against insurgency.Speaking further,he said Borno state government is committed to making sure that members of the group are paid allowances, well equipped and motivated.He announced immediate payment of backlog allowances to the members,donated a bonus of twenty million naira and ordered the supply of more patrol vehicles to the volunteers.He also directed the Ministry of Health to put a system in place that will ensure all civilian JTFs receive free treatment in government owned hospitals.
