Governor Abubakar Pledges Operational Vehicles To Security In Bauchi

Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has pledged to provide security agencies working to maintain peace, law and order in the state with operational vehicles for patrolling state. The Governor who stated this while receiving the commander of the Operation Safe Haven from Jos, Major General Rogers Nicholas on a courtesy visit, commended the performance of the Army and other security agencies in making Bauchi the most peaceful of the 6 six states in the northeast.

The governor said his administration places security on top of its agenda and promised to provide operational vehicles for patrolling Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa local government areas of Bauchi state that are under the command of the Operation Safe Haven's area of mandate, just as he had recently done to the entire state.

Governor Abubakar said the performance of Operation Safe Haven in Bauchi state is commendable "because is spite of the volatility of the Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro local government areas in the past, since we assumed office last year there has not been any serious breach of peace in the area", which he attributed to the operations of Save Haven.

He charged the people of Bauchi state, especially traditional and community leaders to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing them with information and intelligence and embracing community policing, especially on matters that affect strange movements within their localities.

Earlier, the Commander of the Operation Safe Haven, Jos, Major General Rogers Nicholas had explained to the governor that some suspected insurgents escaping military operations in Borno and Yobe states have been flushed out forests in Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa local government areas of Bauchi state which are under his command, but assured that the areas have now remained "cool and calm" after the successful operations.

General Nicholas said, the military is worried that military operations in Sambisa had forced fleeing insurgents to seek for sanctuary in forests in different parts of the country, including some parts of Bauchi state, but assured the military and other relevant security agencies are on top of the matter.

The commander said the Army in collaboration with other security agencies will continue to make sure that insurgents have no safe haven in Bauchi state, but lamented that intelligence have shown that rampant cases of robbery and other worrying criminal activities are being recorded in Bogoro, Tafawa Balewa and Toro local government areas of the state, a reason which he said necessitated the banning of the use of tricycles in the night in Plateau state.

While appreciating the logistics support of the governor to the operations of the task force, the commander appealed to the governor to provide them with operational vehicles to be used in patrolling the Bauchi area of the task force.

He drew the attention of the governor to the activities illegal miners that abound in the state which he said can be legalized in order to improve the revenue generation of the state.

Governor Abubakar also received in audience, the Commandant, Nigerian Army Armored Corps, Bauchi, Major General I. M. Alkali, who also appealed for continued support of the governor in carrying out their responsibilities in the state, especially the construction of the road leading to the School of Armor, Bauchi, and primary and secondary schools within the School of Armor, Bauchi barracks.

The governor also promised to provide the Armored School, like other parts of the state, with the necessary infrastructure within the availability of resources in government coffers.

Earlier in the year, Governor Mohammed Abubakar had purchased 25 Hilux and fully equipped them with communication gadgets which were handed over to the Army, Police and the DSS for patrolling the state and ensuring its security.
