They were apprehended in the morning of today.

A young man, Orji Eke who hails from Enugu State and sells assorted types of polythene bags by pushing his truck daily round Umuahia, was waylaid by six of them along the relatively lonely Orieogwu Afara market road. He was coming from another market, Orieugba and was moving towards Isi-court through that route when they caught him and stripped him of all his sales  (N1,300) and accused him of killing one their members.

Eke ran to a vigilante group run by the youths of the community and reported his ordeal and within few hours, these two were caught at Umuokenyi area of Enyiukwu Afara by three members of the vigilante group. The other four remained at large at the time of this account.

They were apprehended at a pub house they called "bunk" taking some intoxicating substances known in a local parlance as 'jiko' or 'jicko' (not sure which is the right spelling).Initially, they denied knowledge of what their offences were and why they were being held; but upon interrogation, and coming face-to-face with their victim, they agreed being in the company but never partook in the crime.

One of them, Chinedu Egege who hails from the community said he was only going to buy beans with his friend, Ifeanyi Obianwa (who's a native of Orlu in Imo State) when they were caught. Obianwa said same but upon further interrogation by the youths and some elders of the community, they opened up to have shared in the money and with their own share, decided to buy beans as well as treat themselves to some jiko/jicko.Report says no day passes without a shop or home being broken into in the rail line community with the vigilante group taunted of keeping vigil in vain. This probably explained their visible anger as they meted out some blows as well as machete cuts on the apprehended ones while furiously haunting down the ones at large.

The youth president, Alozie Irokansi said they were going to be banished from the community after they must have been handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, when Chinedu's mother was notified of her sons situation she simply said it was an opportunity for her to have a breathing space.
