Governor Samuel Ortom has approved One Hundred Million Naira loan from the N2billion domiciled with the Bank of Industries for disbursement to members of the Benue State chapter of the Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI).

The Governor, who gave the approval today during a courtesy call on him by members of the association at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi, also donated a pickup van to the association to enhance their mobility especially movement of products for trade fairs to Abuja and other States.

He also approved the association’s request for leasing of the Benue State Agricultural Development Corporation, ADC, stressing that many moribund industries in the State would be leased to willing and interested investors to help turn around their fortunes.

Governor Ortom directed the State Commissioners for Industries, Trade and Investments, Finance and Justice to liaise with NASSI leadership with a view to translating their requests and proposals into actionable plans for the overall interest of the State.

He described Micro, Small and Medium Scale industries as viable avenues through which the economic recovery of the country could be achieved, saying he was ready to partner with them in order to turn around the economic fortunes of the State.

The Governor charged Benue people to take advantage of the numerous business opportunities in the State and access the windows provided by the Bank of Industries, Bank of Agriculture as well as NEXIM and Central Banks to become entrepreneurs and contribute to the economic growth of the State.

Governor Ortom said he had directed that all those with undeveloped plots of land at the Industrial Layout in Makurdi should be terminated and given to people with the capacity to develop them for business purposes, stressing that the industrial layout was for industries and not a residential area.

Earlier in her address, State Chairman of NASSI, Mrs. Gladys Shaahu, lauded the Governor’s giant strides especially the enactment of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, construction of feeder roads, bringing of BOI and BOA in the State to provide loans for entrepreneurs among others.
