Thirteen year-old girl drowns in the swamp of Obibia Stream at Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area.
The tragedy followed two days of heavy rainfall which flooded most areas in Awka and other parts of Anambra State.
The two days torrential rainfall kept many residents indoors, flooded streets, homes and disrupted economic and social activities.
Some of the areas affected by the rain were the swamps at Agbani- Ezeoye village Nibo along Awka- Ekwulobia-Orlu Road.
The Peugeot 504 car carrying three children of the General Overseer of a Church in Adabebe- Amawbia, Pastor Samuel Dijeh was swept away as the flood ravaged its engine.
While the driver and the two boys in the car were rescued by divers, their teenage sister was drowned before the car was pulled out of the flood.
The driver of the car, Elder Ejike Anadebe said he followed a bus to cross the water before the vehicle was overwhelmed by the flood.
The State Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor who was at the scene of the incident, lamented the tragedy and assured that a consultant would be sent to study the terrain.
