Today's bible teaching: He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

Mathew Chapter 2 Vs 13-23

The Flight to Egypt.

13* When they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt,* and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him."14Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt.15* He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the prophetd might be fulfilled, "Out of Egypt I called my son."

The Massacre of the Infants.

16When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.17Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:

18* e "A voice was heard in Ramah,

sobbing and loud lamentation;

Rachel weeping for her children,

and she would not be consoled,

since they were no more."

The Return from Egypt.19When Herod had died, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt20and said,f "Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child's life are dead."*21He rose, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel.22But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod,* he was afraid to go back there. And because he had been warned in a dream, he departed for the region of Galilee.23* g He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazorean."

Shettima to Senate: There is food security deficit, I am begging you for immediate palliatives

Shettima to Senate: There is food security deficit, I am begging you for immediate palliatives

Borno state governor, Hon. Kashim Shettima has on Friday informed the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that Borno is facing a very serious food security challenge which need to be addressed promptly.

The governor made this known when Sen. Oluremi Tinunu led a Senate special committee on visitation to IDP camps paid a courtesy call to the governor at the Maiduguri government house.

Shettima said: "We have gone through a lot in the past six years and anytime we get exalted visitors like you, we feel highly honored to lay our array of challenges at your doorsteps because you are in position to change the direction of the wind".

"I just returned from Bama and initially I was telling the world that Bama was destroyed by up to 75 percent. I was shocked to see that Bama was destroyed by up to 95 percent. The 10 primary schools in that town, all the 5 secondary schools, a tertiary institution, the hospital, the Army barracks, the Police barracks and every single home in that town was burnt down. In Pulka I saw galaxies of burnt structured and in Gwoza, homes were destroyed up to 40percent".

"I want to urge you to use your exalted offices to canvass for the immediate reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement in the Northest. We have more 49,000 orphans in Maiduguri alone and in Monguno, we have more than 38,000 orphans. We have to make concerted efforts to make sure we take care of these orphans because if we fail to take care of them, they would definitely that care of us in next 15 to 20 years.

"I besieged you to come to our aid. Honestly, l hate to beg no matter my circumstances, no matter our poverty, we carry our poverty with dignity. I don't beg but I am begging you this time, please use your good offices for immediate intervention: for palliatives because there is the time frame within which we will have to do something.

"For now our major challenge has to do with food security deficit, our people are facing real existential threat. Get back to the Senate and impress on your colleagues to come to our aid.

"So far, all the local government headquarters in Borno are under the firm control of the Nigerian government. Borno has gone a lot in the past six years but I want to assure you that we have crossed the rubicon and we are on a path to sustained peace and if there is one community that is eternally grateful to President Buhari is the people of the Northeast", said Shettima.

Earlier on in her speech, the leader of committee Sen. Oluremi Tinubu condoled Gov. Shettima over the demise of his Commissioner for Enviroment, Hon. Waziri Imam and also briefed the him on their mission in the state.

"We want to offer our heartfelt condolences on the passing of one of your commissioners; Commissioner of environment, Hon Waziri Imam and pray that God will console you and bear the fortitude to bear his lost and also prayed that God will give him eternal rest", said Mrs. Tinubu.

"The reason why we are here is that we moved a motion during the children's day celebration on May 26, 2016 with a theme 'stop violence against children'.

"It was there that the senate resolved that part of the prayers we made is that we have to pay a visit to IDP camps and it was resolved that the Chairman Senate Committee health Sen. Lanre Tejuosho who is here with us and also the Chairman Senate Committee of Primary healthcare and communicable diseases Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa should convene together with me and visit the IDP camps to check the state of welfare of the children and to be able to come back to the Senate and report to it, so that we can know what to do", said Mrs. Tinubu.

EDO: Our Democracy In Danger - PDP

September 30, 2016
Press Statement:

EDO: Our Democracy  In Danger - PDP

President Buhari's congratulatory message to Godwin Obaseki has finally revealed his hand in the Edo Guber Election imbroglio. We note with sadness that he had never extended similar congratulatory messages or goodwill to PDP candidates who were victorious in various Elections since he assumed office.

In  Bayelsa State where his Party with the support of security agencies virtually declared war on  Governor Seriake Dickson and the people of Bayelsa, the President refused to congratulate the PDP Candidate who against all odds managed to survive the APC onslaught.

His aides claimed then that the President was not in the business of congratulating election winners. Why the sudden change of heart now if we may ask? The only plausible explanation is that the President was eager to confer legitimacy on an otherwise badly flawed Election in which his Party acted like Shina Rambo, the notorious Armed Robber. Only that this time they were robbing the people of their votes.

The action of the President belies his statement that he belongs to nobody but belongs to everybody . The President has shown where he belongs. We recall that President Jonathan dutifully never failed to congratulate opposition candidates who won elections during his tenure including Adams Oshiomhole. That is what is expected of a statesman.

We did not loose the Gubernatorial Election in Edo State. We can therefore not be described as "bad losers" according to the APC State Chairman in Edo State, Anselm Ojezua. We were robbed by very shameless election riggers.
We fully support the Edo Chapter of the PDP in the total rejection of the election results. We also fully endorse their determination to employ all legitimate means to reclaim their stolen mandate.

Finally we wish to warn Nigerians that our democracy is in grave danger. Since the advent of this administration, no election has been free and fair. We go for elections as if we are going to war; and virtually all elections conducted by INEC have been either inconclusive or blatantly rigged.

Today  Rivers State has no representation in the National Assembly. No thanks to the powers that be. If we do not collectively rise to resist  this anti people onslaught we might as well say bye bye to democracy.
Signed:

Prince Dayo Adeyeye

NDLEA arrests man using Dry Chicken Noodles to Smuggle Drugs in Enugu Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a plot to use dry chicken flavored noodles to smuggle cannabis through the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) in Enugu State on a plane to China. According to the NDLEA spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, "the cannabis was carefully prepared inside packs of noodles to avoid detection."

The alleged culprit, Benson Onyechi Esonwunne, was attempting to board an Ethiopian Airways flight from Nigeria to China when he convinced an innocent passenger to carry the box of packaged chicken flavored noodles for him on the plane.

Mr. Ofoyeju said, "it is instructive that people be aware of this trick because what they consider as an assistance may just send them to prison or early graves. This is because drug trafficking is punishable by death in China."

The NDLEA statement also revealed that Mr. Esonwunne had been deported from China two times prior for immigration offenses in 2008 and on May of this year.

Mr. Esonwunne said that he began trafficking drugs because Nigeria's economy was so poor, and its exchange rate so unfavorable, that he needed to turn to the illegal activity to get by.

In addition to this arrest, the NDLEA also arrested another passenger at AIIA airport in Enugu State for ingesting 74 wraps of a substance testing positive for cocaine. That perpetrator, also said that he began smuggling drugs due to the poor economy, was offered $5,000 to carry out the activity.

The NDLEA said both men will face charges for their crimes.

Kogi : Supreme Court gives reasons for dismissing Faleke, Wada’s appeals

Kogi : Supreme Court gives reasons for dismissing Faleke, Wada's appeals

The Supreme Court on Friday said it dismissed the appeal of James Faleke of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Kogi governorship elections because the reliefs sought were "aberration, not known to law''

The court, while giving reasons for its decisions of Sept. 20 on the elections also said that the respective appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Idris Wada failed because it was "frivolous''.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the apex court panel of seven judges had unanimously dismissed the three appeals, respectively contesting the return of Gov. Yahaya Bello of the APC.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun who read the lead judgment in Faleke's case said the court dismissed the appeal because the claims by the appellant were not supported by any extant laws.

"This is a simple law. Since the election, had not been completed and the final results issued by the electoral body, Faleke, as a running mate, cannot claim ‎victory in the election,'' she said.

She held that Faleke was not qualified to benefit the votes the APC scored in the contest before the death of the party's governorship candidate, Prince Audu Abubakar, because he did not meet the condition precedent.

Kekere-Ekun said that Faleke neither obtained nomination form nor substantively participated in the APC governorship primaries.

The Judge further said that INEC had already declared the election inconclusive before Audu's sudden death.

Adducing reasons in support of Bello's qualification, the Judge held that the Electoral Act gives room for substitutions of candidates on account of either death or withdrawal.

She said the extant law gives powers to political parties to take full charge of the process of selection of candidates for elections, adding that the court lacked the jurisdiction to stop them.

Kekere-Ekun, therefore, held that the substitution of the late governorship candidate of the party with Bello was apt.

"Nothing can be more apt as the governor had fully participated in the governorship primary election of the APC and came second after Abubakar.

"Unlike Faleke, who did not meet that condition, but was simply selected to be a deputy governor.

"By virtue of the provisions of Section 221 of the 1999 Constitution it is the political parties that actually contest elections.

"The governor having become candidate of APC, and legally sponsored by the same party can lay claim to the votes scored by the party in the Nov. 21, 2015 poll,'' she held.

Faleke, the running mate to Abubakar had filed the appeal against Bello's victory in the Dec.5, 2015 supplementary election.

He urged the court to return him as duly elected on the grounds that the Abubakar/Faleke ticket had already scored the majority votes of 240, 873 in the Nov.21, 2015 governorship election.

He contended that INEC acted in bad faith by declaring the election inconclusive because he (Faleke) should have been declared as governor after the death of Abubakar.

Similarly, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta in his lead judgment gave reasons why the apex court dismissed the appeals by PDP and Wada.

"The testimonies relied on by the appellants relate to qualification of the first respondent (Bello) and his alleged failure to personally nominate a running mate.

"They have also challenged his non-participation in Nov. 21, 2015 election and the combination of the votes and votes scored by late Abubakar.

"We join the tribunal and the appeal court to hold that the testimonies have no probable value,'' he held.

Ngwuta further said that the concurrent decision of the two courts below was affirmed because the appellants had not advanced any reason for the apex court to hold otherwise.

"It is my view that the appellants did not prove a ground for this court to interfere with the concurrent findings of the trial tribunal and the court of appeal,'' Ngwuta held.

NAN reports that the appeals filed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Labour Party (LP) on the elections suffered similar fate.
