Governor Udom lifts family of Deceased NYSC member with scholarship

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has identified strongly to uplift the family of Late Mr Ukeme Monday Asuquo, a first class graduate of Petroleum Engineering who passed on penultimate week during the mandatory Orientation exercises of the National Youth Services Corps (NYSC) in Zamfara State, Northern Nigeria. The Governor has equally charged the people of Etinan Local Government Area in particular, and the entire Akwa Ibom State in general to 'Be Strong'

The State Chief Executive stated these during the Funeral Service conducted for the departed academic icon by Power City International at his home town, Ikot Udo Otto. According to the Governor who spoke through the State Commissioner for Education, Pastor Paul Alexander Udofia,  "it is with deep sorrow and shock that the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State learnt of the untimely demise of the cerebral Mr. Ukeme Monday Asuquo who until his demise was a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme. At this unfortunate dark time,  we offer you our thoughts,  prayers and condolences".  Continuing,  the State Chief Executive added that, "it is important to be reminded that the greatest compliment to a passing companion is to keep their memories alive.  We understand Ukeme was committed to a life of responsibility and academic excellence,  may we be strengthened and assisted to carry on with the very virtues that genuinely pleased him,  and which would continue to reverberate the legendary and iconic principles of a man who was in a class of his own".

While promising to continue to support and stand by the family,  Governor Udom Emmanuel donated One Million Naira to the bereaved family to offset medial bills for the deceased mother and also announced the endowment of a scholarship for the educational pursuit of Ukeme's younger brother.

When pressed for comments,  Comrade Otobong Akpan,  Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs was full of commendations to the Governor for his magnanimity and sensitivity to the plight of the bereaved family.  According to her,  "His Excellency 's gestures has gone a long way to amelliorate the pains and harsh conditions the family is passing through.  This is one loss too many,  and we deeply appreciate our Governor for endowing a scholarship to ensure the younger brother of the deceased has the best of education".

It could however be recalled that Mr.  Ukeme Monday Asuquo, who graduated from the Department of Petroleum Engineering as the best graduates student with a cummulative grade point am greatest of 4.85 garnering multiple scholarships,  academic prizes,  Awards and ladies passed on two weeks age at the Zamfara State NYSC Orientation Campion following from an undisclosed health conditions,  a development that triggered nation wide condemnation of the NYSC Medical response system.
