On the morning of Saturday March 19, 2016, Citizen Juliet Kobani, a Youth Corper, set out to perform her duty as an electoral officer in Ward 6, Isaka, of Okrika Local Government Area.nLittle did she know that it was going to be a day she would both escape death and be betrayed by the Nigerian military.
On her arrival at ATC, jetty, Okrika, she and her colleagues were boarded on boat that rather than went to Isaka, Ward 6, where the election was to hold, was diverted to an unknown Creek, and under the cover of military protection by a gun boat, stalwarts of the APC forced her and her colleagues to thumbprint the ballot papers for the Party.
Her refusal to authenticate the results with her signature attracted severe beatings from the APC members who threatened to rape and kill her.
Juliet Kobani only managed to survive the ordeal when an unnamed army officer said her death was not part of the plan. She is severely battered and currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed location.
