Daughter Of former Vice Chancellor of Unizik,  Ogoamaka Egboka  shares her experience so far in Canada.

"I have been pondering over this so I decided to put up a post. We are 5 girls and a boy in my family, we grew up with our parents Boniface Egboka and Ifeoma Carolyn Egboka working their whole life.

My daddy is a renowed professor and a former vice chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State Nigeria. Mummy is a Deputy Registrar at Nnamdi Azikiwe University and this woman has worked all her life and is still working.

I finally settled here in Canada 2009 with my three kids in Brampton Ontario, I am a licensed lawyer in Nigeria. No one was willing to give me any legal job here in Canada without getting any Canadian certification or Canadian work experience.  Because of how my parents raised me I didn't want to go on social assistance or scam the government like most women I know do. I got a call center job and with the terrible pay I still got clients that were racist and discriminatory because of my accent. One customer told me that "I want to speak to a Canadian" but I laughed because with my African accent am still a Canadian, dumbass fool. One couldn't tell the difference between an Indian and African accent, another dumb idiot.

I got another call center job more pay this time but I wasn't happy because I wasn't cut out for call center job, I have always wanted to be in the legal field, am a trouble maker and I always want to channel that energy in that field. I had to start working at the call center part time and go to school full time and I got my paralegal license. I am currently working at a law firm (my second legal job in Canada) as a law clerk. I still want more, I now want to be a CANADIAN LAWYER and am taking it seriously this time.

The reason for my post is Obodo oyibo no dey easy everything am doing is for my kids to learn from me and work hard for everything they have in life, am teaching them the samething my wonderful parents taught me, that hardwork pays.

Be a good role model for your kids, neices and nephews because they are watching us. Don't be an empty vessel making the loudest noise with nothing to show.'
