The Presidency on Thursday said there was no truth in reports alleging mismanagement of the N500bn budgeted in the 2016 Budget for the Social Investment Programmes.

It also denied the claims that the programmes were designed to marginalise a section of the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, stated this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.

He was reacting to media reports of a recent debate and resolution on a motion in the Senate, titled, "The need to avoid the mismanagement of the N500bn Social Intervention Funds."

Akande said, "While we understand the need for an ongoing public discussion of this unprecedented budgetary allocation in favour of the Nigerian people especially the poorest and the most vulnerable, it is not correct to claim any form of mismanagement  or marginalisation whatsoever.

"There has not been any disbursement from the allocated fund not to talk of any kind of mismanagement at all.

"While it is true that funds are being released for the social investment programmes, it is rather preposterous for now to say there is no evidence where the funds have gone to."
