...As new NDDC MD advocates regional integration, development

The swearing in of Mr Nsima Ekere as the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has been described as a dawn of a new era that will usher in more development and regional revival to the Niger Delta region.

The party's leader and the Managing Director of Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), Mr Umana Umana, stated this on Friday while speaking at a special reception held in honour of Mr Ekere and Hon Frank at the Abuja residence of the former Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor.

Umana, who was accompanied to the reception by his wife, Pastor Florence Umana, among other dignitaries, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for inaugurating the board of the commission, describing Mr Ekere's inauguration as the beginning of a new era for a positive turn around in the Niger Delta region, assuring that with the numerous experience the former deputy governor had garnered over the years, the region will experience development in line with the founding objectives upon which the NDDC was established.

He assured Mr Ekere of his support to him and the new management team towards achieving maximum success for the benefit of the state and the Niger Delta.

Speaking earlier, the new Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Ekere, has promised that the new management will return the commission to its core mandate particularly of regional development and integration.

Mr Ekere, who stated this during the inauguration of the new NDDC board in Abuja on Friday, said the new team will also focus on ecological management and healthcare services, engagement with stakeholders and development partners, human capital development, youth engagement and development of the non-oil sector thereby attracting new industries.

The NDDC boss also pledged that his team will be innovative, efficient, transparent, accountable and dedicated in the discharge of its functions.

“Working with other partners, we will write a new narrative for the NDDC,” he declared.

He reasoned that a new way of doing things was imperative in the commission in the face of challenges like unemployment, youth restiveness, and nose-diving of revenue as a result of low international oil prices and insecurity.
